ADC's 3rd Annual 5K/1mile Race

ADC is proud to hold the 3rd Annual /1mile Race--this year in Draper, Utah on MAY 16, 2009!

This is a wonderful community event that brings friends, family, co-workers, students, children and all together to help raise awareness of the Deaf, its culture and the use of American Sign Language (ASL).

'Signs On The Trail'--the ongoing theme for the race, helps to promote the use of ASL for deaf, hard of hearing, autistic, young babies & hearing individuals. ASL is the 4th most used language in the nation and a very natural language for deaf people.

Participants in the race will enjoy the beautiful sights along Draper's Trails as well as see the 'Signs On The Trail' as they run, walk or stroll.

Sego Lily Center for the Abused Deaf

SegoLilyHeart

The Sego Lily Center for the Abused Deaf (SLCAD) is an advocacy agency designed to meet the specific needs of Deaf, Deaf/Blind and Hard of Hearing victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Many deaf and hard of hearing youth have a difficult time expressing their feelings--especially if they are surrounded at home by a hearing family, who they struggle to communicate with. 90% of deaf children are born into hearing families. Sometimes the inability to express their feelings can be overwhelming. ADC sponsors limited counseling for those who are eligible. They can receive group or individual counseling to help the extra struggles in a comfortable, deaf-friendly environment.

SLCAD provides counseling & short workshops each month at SYHO for individual and group services. Parental consent is required for these services.
